Brenda Corijn, who draws on her Mozambican and Portuguese roots, sings in Portuguese and English. Her warm voice blends beautifully with Siebe Chau's southern guitar playing, Jolan Decaestecker's layered electronics and Bert Peyffers' eclectic percussion. Their new album Malandra will be released on 13 February 2026. A malandra is a woman who goes through life with humour, intelligence, mischief and cunning: not always honest, but always true to herself. With Malandra, Ão pays tribute to complexity, diversity and the quest in all its forms. The sound is even more layered, more rhythmic, more playful, more tender and harder than their first album Ao Mar. The album will be presented live in 2026 during a European tour which, after a previous visit in 2023, will finally bring the band back to De Roma.
