It's now been four years since Marie Van Uytvanck and Amber Piddington first performed together on stage, during the Sound Track 2019 qualifiers. What initially was just a last minute solution (the guitarist with whom Marie would participate in the competition had canceled due to illness) went so well that they decided to form a group: Kids With Buns, name based on the Gorillaz song Kids with Guns.
The songs they wrote together – melancholic pop songs about what was on their hearts – were an instant hit. The first singles 1712 and Bad Grades were very popular. In August 2020 they reached the semi-finals of Humo's Rock Rally and in January 2021 they won the De Nieuwe Lichting prize from Studio Brussel. From then on, things moved quickly: Bad Grades climbed to first place in the De Afrekening ranking (Top 30) from Studio Brussel and had more than 2.5 million streams on Spotify.
