Louise van den Heuvel is a versatile Dutch bassist. Invariably rooted in the contemporary electronica and jazz scene, her compositions and sound are characterised by a particular and creative use of modern music technology and effects pedals. Louise co-founded the electronic jazz trio Dishwasher_ - often hailed as one of the most exciting new Belgian bands - and in recent years collaborated (live) with renowned artists such as Zwangere Guy & Lander Gyselinck and Bruno Vansina.

For her brand new project Sonic Hug - born out of a carte blanche by JazzLab and W.E.R.F. Records for their 30th anniversary in 2023 - Louise composed the entire repertoire herself. She then surrounded herself with some of the most interesting artists from the contemporary (jazz) scene: Hendrik Lasure on keys, Daniel Jonkers on drums and Sam Comerford on sax and clarinet (replaced live by Werend Van Den Bossche). The foursome started recording with producer Koen Gisen (cfr. An Pierlé, Dans Dans, Bony King, ...). The band will go on JazzLab tour in April and May 2024, following the album release on 5 April 2024 via W.E.R.F. Records.

Sonic Hug performs layered, melancholic songs full of elegant grooves, crystal-clear vocals and experimental jazz excursions. Louise uses her own musical voice in a completely unique way - even literally, as on some tracks you can actually hear her sing (for the first time!) as well.
