At De Roma, we believe it is very important to pay attention to the challenges of our society and social connections.
Our goal is to inspire our audience around compelling current themes such as anti-racism, resistance to poverty, sustainability, (international) solidarity, women's rights, LGBTQIA+, migration and people on the run, education and mobility.... But above all our purpose is to bring people together in the multicolored city we currently live in. Therefore, we organize a range of activities on various topics where we meet and debate with each other, all under the name SIG. Because Speaking Is Gold, which translates in Dutch to Spreken Is Goud.

Solidarity
From opposition to poverty and human warmth in Antwerp to solidarity with victims of war and people fleeing worldwide, solidarity is a core value of Spreken is Goud.
Meeting place
Antwerp has 172 different nationalities and different communities who have made the city their home for several generations. With Speaking Is Gold, we offer a meeting place at De Roma and Amor to discover the richness of this diversity.
Antiracism and intersectionality
Social inequality manifests itself at the intersection of multiple axes: race, social class, gender, religion, disability, etc. We therefore invite voices that address these unequal structures and work for justice in diversity.
Young people characterize the city
1 in 3 Antwerp residents is under 30 years old. In collaboration with various youth organisations, we give them the opportunity to talk about the social challenges they face and the society in which they wish to live.
Sustainability
By sustainability, we mean caring for the environment and respecting the rights of every human being. After all, climate action only works if it is socially equitable, both locally and globally.
