Fomofilm, a project by Mooov, travels to faraway places in search of the most unique stories. De Roma joins the project and shows a Fomofilm every month.
The young girls from La Arcadia, an institution in Colombia's capital Bogotá, had a bumpy ride. Many of them were living on the streets without any family to fall back on. Here they live together in a safe haven, with a roof over their heads.
Filmmakers Clare Weiskopf and Nicolas van Hemelryck settled there five years ago to give workshops. The filmmakers, invited the girls to sit in front of a camera and close their eyes. They can to let their imaginations run wild to reconstruct the life story of an imaginary friend, Alis. Their creative freedom becomes increasingly intertwined with anecdotes from their own lives.
The testimonies are interspersed with images of day-to-day life at the La Arcadia institute. We see how the girls sing, dance, bicker and try to forget their worries. A nice balance is achieved between poetry and pain. Through the dark clouds of their stories, a ray of hope for a better life breaks through.
