Amaro Freitas & Momi Maiga

Echoes of the Atlantic

  • i.c.w. Klara

The meeting of Amaro Freitas’s jazz piano and Momi Maiga’s kora and voice results in a sonic dialogue between Brazil and West Africa, an emotional and musical bridge across the Black Atlantic. The duo explores the connections between the African diaspora, Brazil’s musical identity and the spirit of contemporary jazz. Moving between original compositions, improvisations and rhythmic and vocal landscapes, the music flows like a suite in motion, free from boundaries and labels.

Echoes of the Atlantic is a celebration of memory and freedom: a sensory journey where virtuosity, passion and cultural traditions come together. A beautiful reminder of just how universal and unifying music can be.

Bio Amaro Freitas

Hailing from Recife (Brazil), Amaro Freitas has established himself as one of the most original voices in contemporary jazz. As a self-taught pianist and composer with a deep rhythmic instinct, he weaves Afro-Brazilian polyrhythms with a spiritual quest and an unmistakable creative freedom. With his trio and international collaborations, he has performed at major festivals worldwide, where he redefines the sound of jazz with an identity firmly rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture.

Bio Momi Maiga

Born in Casamance (Senegal) and based in Catalonia (Spain), Momi Maiga is a virtuoso kora player, vocalist and composer who fuses Mandinka traditions with jazz, flamenco and classical music. As a descendant of the Cissokho griot family, he represents a new generation of African artists who reinterpret their ancestral heritage through a contemporary, sensitive and universal language. His ability to connect cultures through music makes him one of the most promising figures on the international scene.
