Twelve-year-old Nanning lives on an idyllic Wadden Sea island. He hunts seals, goes fishing and helps out on his family’s farm. Life seems beautiful and peaceful, but in Berlin the Third Reich is in decline. Nanning’s life, too, is slowly beginning to feel more complicated than it ever was.

Amrum, 1945 stands out from other war films because of the care with which Nanning’s childlike innocence is contrasted with his parents’ Nazi beliefs – his mother was a fervent supporter of the Nazi regime and his father served as an SS officer.
