BHM Congo Square

Black History Month Belgium, Skinfama, Maisha, Yaya Yaba Leki and De Roma present

This artistic space is conceived as a vibrant moment of gathering, highlighting the various actors and actresses of the Afro-descendant cultural scene in Belgium. Through music, dance, performance, poetry, and other text-based readings, the event seeks to celebrate and honor the connections that Afro-descendant communities forge among themselves and with their roots.

Inspired by the original “Congo Square” in New Orleans, United States—an emblematic gathering place for African Americans during and after slavery, and a historic site that played a crucial role in the development of Afro-American music, notably jazz and blues—this event aims to create a special moment imbued with freedom, energy, hope, memory, and resistance.

Featuring: Boule Mpanya & band, Cayla J., Scottie, Nsangu and MAHINA

This program is part of the program of Black History Month Belgium, which focuses on "Sounds of Blackness" this year.
