Critical Zone
Little by little movies set mainly in a car are becoming a specialty of Iranian filmmakers. No wonder; a car offers an anonymous and relatively safe space to make a film. It is also a place where people can feel free, which is also the case in Critical Zone.
The film follows good-hearted drug dealer Amir on a night drive through Tehran. He meets several customers who, under the influence of his drugs, are able to shed the shackles of Iran's strict regime for a little while. Young women for example, quickly remove their headscarves. Meanwhile, Amir, as a kind of priest or healer, listens to their frustrations and pronounces wise words of comfort or advice.
