Dreams
Earlier in November, we screened Dag Johan Haugerud's films Sex and Love. With this final instalment, he completes his thematic trilogy on 'sex, love and dreams'. Dreams is – as the title suggests – a dreamy and lyrical musing about that First Great Love, but also about the idealistic ideas and expectations that we still (dare to) have at a young age.
High school student Johanne experiences intense infatuation with her French teacher and records her feelings in a diary. When her mother and grandmother read what she has written, they are both shocked by the details and impressed by the literary qualities. While they discuss whether to publish it, Johanne tries to get a grip on her romantic fantasies and their different views on love, sexuality and self-discovery become clear.

PRESS
"First love, first heartbreak: hundreds of films have been made about it, but this is one of the most beautiful. The performances are sublime and the dialogue is brilliant." (HUMO)
“For Johanne, it is a coming-of-age story; for the adults around her, it is a challenge to their supposed adulthood. Dreams plays masterfully with the reversal.” (DE STANDAARD)
