Solidarity Campaign: Shared Warmth

With the cold weather approaching, it is once again time for De Roma to share warmth. This year, we are collaborating with the Red Cross Shelter Linkeroever, which provides shelter to people who have applied for international protection.

De Roma wants to support refugees and to resist their growing dehumanisation. We want to draw attention to the needs of those who are being sheltered, but also to those who are denied shelter.

Together with Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen, we urge the Belgian government to respect international humanitarian law and national jurisprudence. People who have fled their home countries must receive the protection and shelter to which they are entitled, without distinction.

In addition, we also want to highlight the work of the Red Cross Shelter Linkeroever, in particular their need for volunteers for various activities, including homework classes and help in finding housing for people who are allowed to leave the centre.

We invite everyone to donate to the 260 people living in the shelter, both men and women, as well as around 40 children. Specifically, they need:

  • scarves, hats and gloves
  • (non-electric) bicycles and prams (buggies)
  • a gift voucher from the Kringwinkel (to be purchased in the Kringwinkel)
  • some treats for the end-of-year period: chocolates, sweets, savoury or sweet

We ask that to only donate undamaged items in good condition and for the food, only new, unopened and unused, halal or vegan products.

Visit the Foyer of De Roma on 14 December between 11:00 and 16:00!

Our café will be open and there will be free soup.

There will be face painting for children, and Ahmad Khouja of the OC Linkeroever, a talented oud player, will provide some music.
