I'm Still Here
I'm Still Here
Based on the memoirs of Marcelo Rubens Paiva, “I Am Still Here” tells the story of his father Rubens Paiva’s disappearance during Brazil’s military dictatorship in the 1970s.
Rubens Paiva’s disappearance turns the lives of his wife, Eunice (Fernanda Torres), and their five children upside down. Eunice is captured and threatened by the regime, which wants to force her to betray her family and friends. When she is released twelve days later, she will do everything in her power to stand up to the corrupt regime and fight for the rights of thousands of innocent missing citizens and their families.
Director Walter Salles (Central do Brasil, The Motorcycle Diaries) is back as a fiction director after a long time and, with this powerful portrait, makes his first film in his native Brazil in 16 years. His personal relationship with the Paiva family results in a poignant and truthful film, with a wonderful role for Fernanda Torres. As wife and mother figure Eunice, she is the heart of the film.
