Kiefer is a major artist in the diverse independent music scene of Los Angeles. His sound fuses various modalities of Black American Music, from jazz and R&B to hip-hop and electronic music. Danceable rhythms, soulful melodies, and most importantly, hard-hitting beats are the hallmarks of the American keyboardist and producer.

Kiefer grew up in San Diego, California, Kiefer grew up in San Diego, California, where his father introduced him to jazz at a young age, before he experimented with hip-hop-inspired beats in high school. While studying jazz piano at UCLA, Kiefer came into contact with the famous “L.A. beats scene” by attending Low End Theory concerts and collaborating with other artists from the scene such as Kaytranada, Mndsgn and Jonwayne. In 2018, Kiefer signed with Peanut Butter Wolf’s influential Stones Throw label.

Hard-hitting beats, complex jazz voicings and sentimental melodies all fed into Kiefer’s debut, Kickinit Alone, released on Leaving Records in 2017. Soon after, Kiefer signed to Stones Throw and released two LPs: ‘Happysad’ (2018), and ‘When There’s Love Around’ (2021). His new full-length record, titled ‘It’s Ok, B U’, is available everywhere now.

Outside of his solo work, Kiefer has recorded with artists such as Kaytranada, Sir, and Terrace Martin, and produced for Anderson.Paak on his Grammy Award winning record, “Ventura”.

With his Kiefer Trio, Kiefer Shackelford will play two intimate shows at AMOR. For these, he will be joined by musicians Luke Titus and Pera Krstajic, with whom he also recorded his most recent album Something For Real.
