Few lyrics are as prophetic as those of the song Fruit Tree: “Forgotten while you’re here, remembered for a while.” Nick Drake wrote this sentence shortly before his untimely death in 1974, almost 50 years ago. This musician was as unknown as he was brilliant and his first decades in the afterlife suggested almost complete oblivion. However, at the dawn of the 21st century, a wave of nostalgia for Nick Drake's music emerged, which elevated him to an icon.

Currently, the fans of the late musician (today he would have been 75 years old) are growing in number and include names such as Elton John, Bon Iver, Beck and Jose Gonzalez. Posthumously he left his mark on the music of R.E.M., Norah Jones and Elliot Smith. His volatile life and introverted character make Nick Drake a difficult cult figure to capture: for some, he is the tormented hermit who chose obscurity over popularity, for others, he is the embodiment of a music industry that doesn't recognize genius or doesn't recognize it until too late. For others, he is primarily the composer and performer of timeless gems like River Man, Northern Sky and Pink Moon.

As a tribute to the enigmatic English bard and to show the man behind the myth, Annelies Van Dinter, Renée Sys, Jan Swerts, Gianni Marzo and Nicolas Rombouts have developed a beautiful show with stories of Drake's short life and renditions of his greatest hits that never became hits, but turned into tasty fruit from a tree cut down too young. For the concert at De Roma, they are joined on stage by musical talents such as Rosa Butsi, Naima Joris, Guido Belcanto, Gregory Frateur, Frank Vander Linden, Porcelain ID, An Pierlé and Paul Webb aka Rustin Man.
