Alex Koo Trio

According to the famous German magazine Jazzthetik, it is impossible to put a label on Alex Koo. In Belgium, he is considered the enfant terrible of Belgian jazz. According to newspaper De Tijd: “Belgium is too small for pianist Alex Koo”.

The youngest son of a Japanese mother and Flemish father, began playing the piano at the age of five as a classical prodigy and has since been highly acclaimed by jazz icons such as Kurt Elling, Kenny Werner and Brad Mehldau. He has also won numerous prestigious awards, including first prize in the Princess Christina Competition, a Fulbright Scholarship and a Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund Prize.

His album Appleblueseagreen with jazz icons Mark Turner and Ralph Alessi was named one of the best albums of 2019 by the renowned American magazine Downbeat Jazz Magazine, while his most recent solo album Etudes for Piano earned him a comparison to the great master Keith Jarrett, because according to Trouw magazine “Koo plays at the same rare and high level”.

Today, with his long-standing trio, consisting of drummer Dré Pallemaerts (Toots Thielemans, Novastar, Melanie de Biasio) and bassist Lennart Heyndels (Jef Neve, Hi Hawaii, Ben Sluijs), he presents his highly anticipated new album, released by W.E.R.F. records. Prepare for a mix of fascinating compositions, picturesque colors and bloodcurdling interactions.
