In collaboration with Klay Mahungu (promoter of Congolese Rumba in Belgium), De Roma is organizing the BAL CONGOLAIS with the MYTHIQUE RUMBA orchestra to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the independence of the DR Congo and the centenary of E.P. Lumumba, born on July 2, 1925. This grand dance evening will focus primarily on CONGOLESE RUMBA. The other partners are Bambelle, Congolees-Vlaamse Gemeenschap Antwerpen, Credassur and Tubakidi.
Congolese Rumba is a Congolese musical genre that was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2021. The themes sung in Rumba include joy of living, love, social issues, independence, the courage of great men like Lumumba, politics, etc.
Mythique Rumba is composed of some of the most famous singers and musicians from the Congolese diaspora in Belgium and France. It's a multi-generational, multi-cultural orchestra. Alongside the musicians and singers who have contributed to the worldwide fame of Congolese Rumba, there are also young people and musicians of Belgian origin.
The artists include Canta Nyboma, Lokombe Nkalulu, Nana Akumu, Malage De Lugendo and Caïen Madoka. The younger generation of Mythique Rumba is represented by Patient Kusangila, Chabrown Le Maha, Papy Muntu, Jacquou Ilunga, Hugues Moyaba, Diapason, Junior Iloko, and Tister Ikomo. Bert Bernaerts and Ben Dassie are of Belgian origin and are perfectly integrated into the group.
The repertoire of this ambitious group is made up of anthological and popular Congolese Rumba songs. These are the works of the Congo's most emblematic musicians: Kallé Jeff, Franco Luambo Makiadi, Tabu Ley, Nico Kassanda, Lucie Eyenga, Zaïko Langa Langa, Pépé Kalle, Canta Nyboma, Madilu, Papa Wemba, Josky Kimbukuta, Koffi Olomide, to name but a few.
