Budding Humans is a documentary by Norwegian filmmaker Gunhild Magnor. During four seasons, the camera documents the friendship and lives of 2 boys in the microcosm of a daycare, through all the ups and downs that accompany a true friendship.
Budding Humans is also an investigation into parenting, the development of empathy and the appreciation of others towards children. The film is not only a beautiful depiction of a child's life. Love, frustration, tears, teasing, laughter, goodbyes and reunions - in short, life itself in a nutshell.
Childcare is a right, not a privilege. Yet through a new regulation, the Flemish Government gives priority to parents working 4/5ths or more. Every family should have access to good childcare, but with these new rules the Flemish Government excludes many children and parents, instead of providing enough places. De Kinderopvangzaak, a coalition of 20 organisations, is standing up for the right to childcare. They are appealing to the Constitutional Court to challenge the new priority rules. This involves costs, which they try to cover partly through crowdfunding.
With this screening, we ask for support for the crowdfunding of De Kinderopvangzaak.
The film will be introduced by Noëmi Willemen (Crisiskabinet Kinderopvang), Rosalie Daneels (Progress Lawyers Network), Nahid Koocheki (childcare worker at daycare WonderWereld) and a lecturer in childcare education (Encora).
This documentary is Norwegian spoken and subtitled in English.
