As the cold of the end-of-year period approaches, it is also time for De Roma once again to share warmth. This year, we are collaborating with PSC Jongerenwerking, which focuses on unaccompanied newcomers aged between 17 and 25. These young people are in Antwerp without family and are (almost) of age, which means they are mostly on their own. As it is not easy to find their way in a country where they did not grow up, PSC tries to form a bridge in this respect.
Partly because of the Belgian government's non-shelter policy for single men who have fled their home countries, many of these young people are also homeless. De Roma wants to protest this violation of international humanitarian law and support the affected young refugees. Indeed, PSC supports young newcomers with a youth house, counselling, and a co-housing project, De Plataan.
We invite everyone to donate an end-of-year gift to PSC's homeless youth, a backpack, filled with necessary items, that can ease their burden a little. Specifically, you can help these young people with:
- Toiletries: shower gel, shampoo, deo, toothbrushes and toothpaste
- School materials: writing pads, small binders, pens, markers and pencils
- A 10-ride ticket from De Lijn
We ask that only new, unopened and unused, items be donated.
Come share warmth with us on Sunday 15 December from 11:00 to 16:00 in the Foyer of De Roma.
You can enjoy a (free) bowl of soup, while you can watch ‘Tweestromenland.’ This unique documentary about some of the young people of PSC and their families in Iraq, was previously broadcast by Vranckx & De Nomaden on VRT Canvas.
