No one calls themselves a racist, but we do live in a society where racism has a major impact on our thoughts and actions. On the eve of the International Day Against Racism, we take a closer look at this structural problem and its personal impact.
The curator of this evening is Don Moussa Pandzou, co-author of the book Yaya Na Leki (EPO, 2021), educational worker and lecturer on racism, discrimination and decolonisation.
Two years ago, he took to the stage at De Roma for the first time with this performance, which has since developed into a travelling program with a different approach and new guests each time.
“I'm not a racist, but...” alternates sofa conversations and talks with performances that confront us with uncomfortable truths, but also connect us in a joint exploration of racism, solidarity and social justice.
Expect a rich program that focuses on racism in the world of sports and healthcare, and on the link between racism and the increasing authoritarian tendencies in the world, in Belgium and in Antwerp.
The host is none other than actress, theatre and documentary maker Aminata Demba. She welcomes, among others, sports journalist Gilles Mbiye-Beya, psychologist Ama Kissi and human rights lawyer Anissa Boujdaini, to the sofa.
Joffrey Anane provides the common thread throughout the performance with the performance of his AfroBelg characters.
