Nouvelle Vague
Nouvelle Vague is director Richard Linklater's love letter to the revolutionary magic of the French nouvelle vague, a reinterpretation of Jean-Luc Godard's À bout de souffle (1960). In 1959, Jean-Luc Godard filmed his debut film in Paris in just twenty days, which would become a milestone in film history.
The work marks the beginning of the nouvelle vague, the innovative movement within French cinema. But A bout de souffle did not come about without a struggle and opposition from the establishment.
It is precisely this turbulent creative process that Richard Linklater focuses on in Nouvelle Vague. Like the original, the film is shot in stylish black and white and exudes the irresistible atmosphere of the fifties and sixties.
