Opening Food.Film.Fest

Een andere kijk op voedsel

On 11 November, Voedsel Anders and Faire Gemeente are launching their Food.Film.Fest at De Roma. The programme includes a market with stalls, a brunch, a couch debate and the premiere of an inspiring documentary.

The Food.Film.Fest aims to highlight sustainable food production and consumption. Indeed, the industrial food system has reached its limits regarding crop failures due to climate change, biodiversity loss due to pesticides and deforestation and the impact on human and animal health, as well as the well-being of farmers. The selected films showcase pioneering agroecological initiatives from around the world.

On the occasion of the opening of the festival at De Roma you can taste how food can be produced differently. From 11:00 to 12:30, you can enjoy a sustainable brunch. At the market, you can discover various sustainable and fair-trade initiativesand buy tasty products offered by our local partners.

During the couch debate at 12:30 pm, Yasmina Akhandaf from Green Deen, Lien Vrijders from Grassroots Climate Farm in Boechout and Low Impact Man Steven Vromman will exchange their points of view on the power of our food: as a source of connection, solidarity, key to a sustainable economy and driver of climate justice.

The debate will be followed by the premiere of the documentary  Vogels kun je niet melken. Bote, a Dutch dairy farmer, is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the black-tailed godwit. In the whole of Friesland, this meadow bird is hardly seen anymore, except at Bote's, where it keeps coming back, and even in large numbers. His family grants him his passion for the birds, but there is a problem: his land could yield much more as pasture for cattle. Vogels kun je niet melken is a 2023 film by Barbara Makkinga about the connection between agriculture and nature, and the challenges of agriculture in the Netherlands today.

The screening will be followed by a brief meet & greet with the director in the Foyer.

This event is free. Only the brunch costs 5 euros per person. You can register for free or buy a paid ticket for the brunch via the ticket link.
