Thirty years ago, Spain released an exceptional debut album, The Blue Moods of Spain. Against all expectations, the album has over the years become an essential slowcore classic. With its slow grooves, whispered melodies and underlying tension, The Blue Moods of Spain still strikes a sensitive chord three decades later. The newly remastered 30th Anniversary edition finally brings the band around Josh Haden back to Europe for a series of live concerts.
Under the direction of Josh Haden, son of jazz icon Charlie Haden, Spain created in the mid-90s a unique bridge between jazz, blues and indie rock. With tracks such as Spiritual (known thanks to Johnny Cash’s cover), Untitled #1 and the hypnotic World of Blue, the band crafted a warm and restrained sound that gently settles in.
Over the years, Spain has become a fixture on the alternative music scene. After a break in the early 2000s, the band returned with renewed energy and a series of new albums. But it is The Blue Moods of Spain that laid the foundations for their enduring status as a cult band. At De Roma, Spain offers a rare and intimate live show: a fitting tribute to a masterful album where every note matters and time seems to slow down.
