The Voice of Hind Rajab

29 January 2024. Volunteers from the Red Crescent receive an emergency call. A six-year-old girl is trapped in a car in a besieged area of Gaza. As she begs for help, the car is being fired at from all sides by the Israeli army. The emergency services volunteers try to keep her on the line and reassure her, while at the same time doing everything they can to get an ambulance to her. The longer the night goes on, the more desperate the task seems to become.

Director Kaouther Ben Hania (Four Daughters) was very clear about her motivation for making this film: "I cannot accept a world in which a child cries for help and no one comes. That pain, that failure, belongs to all of us." In the audio clips, you can hear the real voice of little Hind. Her cries for help are heart-wrenching, but the film achieves its ultimate goal: to bring her voice – and with it that of the whole of Gaza – to the rest of the world.
