New Zealand band Unknown Mortal Orchestra is coming to De Roma and will take you on a hypnotic journey through their unique musical universe. Led by multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson, UMO combines influences from psychedelic rock, lo-fi, soul, funk and indie pop into a distinctive and recognisable sound that is both melancholic and danceable.

Since their debut in 2011 with the album Unknown Mortal Orchestra and the cult hit Ffunny Ffrends, the band has come a long way. Albums such as II, Multi-Love, Sex & Food and the most recent EP CURSE demonstrate just how versatile this band is. In terms of production, Nielson always manages to create a particularly warm and analogue sound by using vintage instruments and DIY recordings, for example. Live, UMO guarantees a compelling experience: layered grooves, hypnotic visuals and a setlist that effortlessly switches between introspective ballads and funky outbursts.

Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s tour features 2 hour performances built around fully improvised setlists, drawing from over 50 songs across their catalog, including hits, unheard material, and covers. The band leans into extended jams and spontaneous moments, with each show evolving in real time. With ever-changing sets, every night promises a unique, unpredictable live experience with unmatched, anything-can-happen energy.
