Valerie and the rain is the musical universe of composer and singer-songwriter Valerie Van Roey. Her music blends folk and classical composition, drawing inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Arvo Pärt, and Linda Perhacs. She invites her listeners into a world of delicate and intimate songs. Over the past year, Valerie’s music has evolved into a new live project, collaborating with musicians from Belgium and Cornwall. 

Valerie studied composition at the Royal Conservatories of Antwerp and Ghent. In addition to folk and classical music, she has a passion for traditional Iranian singing. After years of writing and performing with musicians from the contemporary Belgian jazz scene, she recorded her debut album in the summer of 2024 with producer Felix Machtelinckx (Tin Fingers). 

Valerie sees each song as a micro-universe, inviting her audience to travel with her. The full album Your Name will be released in February 2026 on Mokuhi Sonorities, the label of Nicolas Rombouts.
