Some struggles can change the course of history. Denis Mukwege, a Congolese doctor and winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize, treats thousands of female victims of sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo, risking his own life in the process. His meeting with Guy-Bernard Cadière, a Belgian surgeon, will reignite his commitment.

MUGANGA CELUI QUI SOIGNE – DIRECTOR: MARIE-HÉLÈNE ROUX; GENRE: BIOGRAPHICAL DRAMA; CAST: ISAACH DE BANKOLÉ, VINCENT MACAIGNE, BABETIDA SADJO; 2025; FRANCE; 1H45; FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

ACCES DIALOGUE

Prior to the screening of Muganga, Celui qui soigne, there will be an introductory panel discussion curated by Sadjo Tshiam of Acces.

Muganga focuses on extreme sexual violence against women in eastern Congo. The film tells a poignant story of violence, care and recovery in a context of prolonged conflict.

The panel discussion will take a closer look at sexual violence against women: how this violence arises, what impact it has on women and communities, and how care and recovery take shape in such circumstances.

The discussion brings together different perspectives: an actress from the film, Jennifer Heylen, a journalist active in the region, Elien Spillebeen from MO*Magazine, and an expert in gender and sexual violence, Rita Afonso. Together, they provide background and context for the themes addressed in the film.

Esohe Weyden will moderate and Eva Demaré from 11.11.11 will give the foreword.
