Anouar Brahem Quartet
Anouar Brahem Quartet
Anouar Brahem, born in Tunisia, is deeply rooted in Arab traditions, but he is also a great lover of Western classical music and free modern jazz. Brahem is a true virtuoso of the oud, the classical stringed instrument of the Middle East also called the oriental lute. The combination of contemporary jazz with Western classical music and other oriental musical cultures, results in an elegant fusion of diverse moods and influences.
For his new tour, which brings him back to De Roma where he already gave a sold-out concert in 2019, Anouar Brahem once again gathers the best musicians around him. Bassist Dave Holland and pianist Django Bates, who also collaborated on his previous successful album Blue Maqams, are joined by cellist Anja Lechner. Their own musical languages and personal backgrounds further enrich the melting pot that characterizes Brahem's music. The collaboration will also result in a new album, to be released by ECM on 7 March 2025. As a teaser, title track After The Last Sky has already been released as a single.
As a starting point for creative improvisations, the quartet takes up Anouar Brahem's original compositions, which combine melodic refinement with simple structures. The quartet will also play a wide range of atmospheres at De Roma and surprise the audience with different configurations and interactions. As the conductor of the evening, Brahem will convey the subtlety of his musical poetry as well as the humanitarian message of his musical project.
