For thirty years, BaBa ZuLa have been pushing the boundaries of Turkish psychedelic rock. The legendary Istanbul-based band is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of a thriving scene that today also includes artists such as Altın Gün, Gaye Su Akyol, Lalalar and Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek.

At the heart of the band are Murat Ertel (electric saz, vocals, theremin) and Levent Akman (percussion, electronics), who have built a unique musical universe around them. Their hypnotic sound blends traditional Turkish rhythms with deep bass lines, glitchy electronics and the unmistakable sound of the electric saz. The result has earned them cult status around the world, as well as admirers including Einstürzende Neubauten, Can and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

Live, BaBa ZuLa deliver a mesmerizing journey where music, improvisation and social engagement come together. Their performances are at once danceable, spellbinding and unpredictable. In 2026, the band celebrates its 30th anniversary with new music, a best-of release and an extensive European anniversary tour, including a stop in Antwerp for a show at De Roma.
