For fans of: Fatoumata Diawara - Sona Jobarteh - Oumou Sangaré

Djely Tapa is a singer and songwriter from Montreal. Her debut album Barokan combines African blues and the vibes of the Sahel with electro influences. With her powerful voice and fiery presentation, the artist brings Mandingo traditions to life in an Afro-futuristic journey.

Born in the Kayes region of Mali, Djely Tapa comes from a famous family of griots. Her mother, Kandia Kouyaté, is one of Mali's great contemporary voices, and her father, Djely Bouya Diarra, was a legendary dancer and singer. Djely Tapa moved to Canada in 2002 to study aeronautical engineering, but soon turned to music.

In 2017, she began her solo career and in 2019, she released her debut album Barokan, produced with AfrotroniX. The album received national and international acclaim and won several awards, including the JUNO Award and the OPUS Award. She also collaborated with several artists, including Patrice Michaud and Omou Sangaré.

Djely Tapa is also the lead vocalist of the Montreal group Afrikana Soul Sister and is committed to gender equality and supporting women of African descent. Her single Le sais-tu? is a protest song about violence and discrimination against women worldwide.
