No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin

For fans of: Robert Glasper, Erykah Badu, Bill Withers

With Meshell Ndegeocello, we welcome one of the most influential bassists. The American multi-instrumentalist studied in Washington D.C. at the famous Duke Ellington School of The Arts before moving to New York in the 1990s.

Her legendary debut album, Plantation Lullabies, from 1993, dealt with themes such as gender, racism and black pride, establishing her as one of the new female activists in a musical world still dominated by men. She went on to collaborate with the most famous stars such as the Rolling Stones, Herbie Hancock, Madonna and Chaka Khan. She has also received no less than 11 Grammy nominations, two of which she managed to win.

In 2024, Meshell Ndegeocello will release her second album under the legendary Blue Note Records label. The new album is an ode to iconic author and human rights activist James Baldwin, who would celebrate his 100th birthday this year. With No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin, Ndegeocello once again highlights themes such as sexuality, religion and racism. The record was co-produced with renowned guitarist Chris Bruce (Seal, Trevor Horn, Chris Connelly) and features contributions from Justin Hicks, Josh Johnson, Jebin Bruni, Abe Rounds and many more fantastic musicians.
