Tabu Ley Héritage

with Pegguy Tabu & Super Rumba

Thirteen years after his passing, the music of Tabu Ley Rochereau returns to life at De Roma. With Tabu Ley Heritage, his son Pegguy Tabu, joined by a live band and dancers, pays tribute to one of the greatest pioneers of Congolese rumba.

Tabu Ley Rochereau (1937-2013) is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in African music history. Through his band Afrisa International, he helped redefine Congolese rumba from the 1960s onwards. Blending traditional rhythms with modern influences, he developed a distinctive stage presence and rose to international fame. In 1970, he became the first African artist to headline the legendary Olympia theatre in Paris.

His music reached audiences around the world, notably through his appearance at the iconic Zaïre ’74 festival, organised alongside the historic boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. There, he shared the bill with artists including James Brown and B.B. King.

Tabu Ley Héritage shines a spotlight on this remarkable musical legacy. Pegguy Tabu brings his father’s songs back to the stage, supported by outstanding musicians and dancers. Expect an evening filled with vibrant rumba rhythms, memorable melodies and a unique introduction to the work of an artist who helped shape African music and inspired generations of performers.

With a catalogue of thousands of songs, Tabu Ley’s influence can still be heard today in genres such as soukous, afro-pop and afro-fusion. This concert celebrates not only his music, but also the enduring power of an artistic legacy that continues to connect audiences across the globe.
