Wim Mertens started making music in 1980, after first working as a musicologist and radio producer. His first release, For Amusement Only, is a music recording consisting only of the sound of pinball machines. Mertens also made a name for himself with its successors: At Home-Not at Home (1981), Vergessen (1982), Struggle for Pleasure (1983) and Maximising the Audience (1984).
Besides his own special work, Mertens composes for various ensembles and symphonic orchestras. Meanwhile, Mertens has over 70 albums to his name and has played with his music all over the world, from North America to Japan.
