Musette is the blues from Paris. Bruxelles Musette, originated from the liaison dangereuse of the dance music of the Auvergnats and Italian folk music. Add to that the swing of jazz and the lyricism of the chanson and you get rousing music, imbued with melancholy and frivolous virtuosity.
Accordionist Gwen Cresens pays tribute to the Django Reinhardt of the accordion: Guy Viseur (1915-1974), who breathed new life into the rich accordion repertoire by adding jazz elements: swing, harmonic enrichment and lots of improvisation inspired by Django Reinhardt's virtuoso swing jazz and Charlie Parker's nervous bebop. Gus Viseur was an inspiring master of the accordion, inspired composer, masterful improviser, sincere jazzman ánd every inch a gentleman.
With Bruxelles Musette, Gwen Cresens wants to shed new light on the figure and music of Guy Viseur, place it in its musical context and bring it to the present. With original compositions by Viseur himself, but also by his contemporaries, his successors and his adepts: Jo Privat, Tony Murena, Marcel Azzola, Jean Corti, Richard Galliano and Rony Verbiest, and even new music of his own.
