Since the 1990s, En Vogue have been making music of a class of their own. Absolute world class, that is. Since their breakthrough album in 1992, the Funky Divas have brought a unique blend of vocal harmonies, R&B, powerful messages and glamorous fashion. For over 30 years, they have held their own: countless girl groups follow their stylish example, but very few match their success and impact. So we are particularly proud that En Vogue will be performing at De Roma in June during their new European tour.
In 2003, the American supergroup changed a little and the original trio of Cindy Herron Brags and Terry Ellis was joined by Rhonda Berret. ‘We respect the fact that we're all individuals. It's never been about one particular member, it's our collective harmonies that creates the essence of the En Vogue sound,’ founding member Terry Ellis explains the enduring success. ‘Thirty years and counting, our harmonies are still holding on, with En Vogue always in the groove,’ original Cindy Herron-Braggs nicely sums it up.
Vocally, the divas of En Vogue are as solid as ever. They still perform their many mega-hits with just as much passion and ardor. We spontaneously think of My Lovin (You're Never Gonna Get It) and Free Your Mind from Funky Divas, or of those other nineties classics Don't Let Go and Whatta Man.
All of the songs are still rock solid, sing-along from start to finish, and at the same time make you think about stereotypes and social issues like racism and sexism. “Free your mind and the rest will follow”, this is a musical message that counts!
