It Was Just an Accident
A man, Eghbal, is driving at night when he accidentally hits a dog. When he manages to limp his damaged vehicle to a garage, he is harassed by a former political prisoner, Vahid, who recognises the squeaking sound of Eghbal's leg as belonging to the man who tortured him in prison. Vahid was blindfolded during his torture and is not entirely sure whether he has the right person in front of him. What follows is a moral cat-and-mouse game, in which the gruesome truth seems to elude everyone and may lie somewhere in the middle.

PRESS
"Despite limited resources, the filmmaker delivers stunning visuals: the opening shot, in which we see Eghbal successively in the glow of a tablet, car lights, and the sparkling skyline, is of wondrous beauty. The greatest miracle is that Panahi has lost none of his sense of humour." (HUMO)
"It Was Just an Accident winning the Palme d'Or at Cannes was anything but an accident: Jafar Panahi proves himself to be as sharp as he is clever in this comical but hard-hitting thriller about oppression and revenge." (DE MORGEN)
