Jim White is a storyteller through and through. The American singer-songwriter has lived a life that seems lifted straight from a novel: from taxi driver in New York and boxer to preacher, photographer, professional surfer and even fashion model. Those extraordinary life experiences echo throughout his songs, which feel like the soundtrack to a road movie set in the heart of the American South.

Discovered in the late 1990s by David Byrne (Talking Heads), White has since become a respected figure in the alternative country and roots scene. Blending folk, country, americana and bluegrass into a sound entirely his own, he creates a world filled with eccentric characters, dark humour and Southern mysticism. It's no surprise that he is often referred to as the king of country noir.

White gained international recognition through the documentary Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, which follows him across the American South in search of the soul of a region that has inspired countless musicians and writers. This fascination with both the beauty and the darker sides of the South remains at the heart of his music today.

Following his memorable appearance at De Roma in 2022, Jim White returns with new music and his beloved Belgian superstar band, featuring Geert Hellings and Nicolas Rombouts. Together they deliver intense, captivating performances filled with compelling stories, melancholic melodies and the elusive magic that has made White one of the most distinctive voices in American roots music for decades. Expect to hear the haunting The Divided States of America as well, his sharp and poetic reflection on a country that seems more divided than ever.
