Mexican Institute of Sound
Do you know that feeling when a DJ plays something you’ve never heard before, but you instantly need to know what it is? That’s Mexican Institute of Sound. Every single time. Since 2005, producer and composer Camilo Lara has been blending traditional Mexican sounds with electronics, punk, disco, and hip-hop into an irresistible, dance-driven sound. What started out as mixtapes for friends has grown into one of the most influential projects in contemporary Latin American music.
Camilo Lara is a true cultural polymath: he has received multiple Grammy nominations, composed music for the films Coco and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and collaborated with artists such as Beck, Damon Albarn, David Byrne, and Manu Chao. Lara is also a regular guest on the world’s biggest stages—from Coachella to Vive Latino, where he performed for over 80,000 people.
Live, Mexican Institute of Sound is a wholly unique experience. Percussion, brass, and beats collide in an explosive show driven by razor-sharp rhythm and humor. Expect no nostalgic throwback, but a whirlwind party you’ll be talking about long after the last note fades.
