Orchestra Baobab, Senegal's legendary group, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a new album (autumn 2024) and, of course, a show at De Roma. Baobab's sound is a unique blend of Afro-Cuban music, international pop influences and traditional griot music.

Orchestra Baobab was formed in 1970, largely by members of the Star Band. The group specialized in Cuban music, which at the time was an extremely popular style of music in West Africa. Orchestra Baobab was first formed temporarily as a variety orchestra for the opening of a large nightclub in Dakar. For the occasion, the orchestra was called Orchestre du Bawobab, after the name of the nightclub. After this concert, the members decided to stay together as a group, and 50 years later they are still touring in concert halls and festivals around the world.
