The Penguin Lessons
When Englishman Tom emigrates to Argentina in 1976 to work at a school, he finds a divided country and a group of stubborn pupils. But when he rescues a penguin from an oil-covered coast during a romantic trip to Uruguay, his life changes completely.
Carried by British actor-comedian Steve Coogan, The Penguin Lessons strikes a fine balance between light-hearted sentiment and the harsh reality of the Argentine dictatorship. 'Sometimes you have to put the penguin in the pool,' they say metaphorically in the film. To express it in a metaphor: this film is like a warm blanket on a chilly winter's day. A feel-good film about a special friendship between a gruff teacher and a penguin in 1970s Argentina, directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty).
