Get ready for a breathtaking musical experience with French piano virtuoso and sound engineer Yann Tiersen. At De Roma, he will present his new double album Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour with a show full of stunning piano playing and electronics.

Yann Tiersen, made world-famous thanks to the soundtrack of the film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, is a phenomenon. Both as a person and as a musician, he does not shy away from following new, unconventional paths. For instance, he toured Europe all alone, accompanied only by his dog. He avoided hotels and preferred to stay in the gardens of people he met along the way. He made much of his tour on his sailing boat Ninnog. That way, he crossed the Faroe Islands, Scotland, Wales and Cornwall, among other places. That trip provided him with the inspiration for his new music.

Rathlin from a Distance | The Liquid Hour is an album divided into two parts that are inextricably linked. The first part consists of eight tracks of introspective instrumental piano. ‘Away from the noise and weight of the world, you are left with the untamed forces of nature - and yourself,’ Tiersen explains. ‘I began to shake off the expectations, constructions and roles that society imposes on us. Out of this experience, Rathlin from a Distance was born. The record is a call to connect, make yourself vulnerable and find solace in the authenticity that comes from facing the forces around you - and within yourself.’

The Liquid Hour is a brilliant, genre-crossing mix of electronica and dynamic psychedelic rhythms. ‘On the water, I felt anger bubbling up alongside beauty,’ says Tiersen. The French composer translated that anger into five impressive tracks. ‘Together they form an indictment of the suffocating vines of capitalism, which tie up our roots and hijack our light. The Liquid Hour is soundtrack as revolt against the system.’
